Clostridioides difficile infection develops following ingestion of virulent stains by a susceptible host. Once germinated, toxins TcdA and TcdB, and in some of the strains binary toxin, are secreted, eliciting disease. Bile acids play a significant role in the process of spore germination and outgrowth, with cholate and its derivative enhancing colony formation, while chenodeoxycholate inhibit germination and outgrowth. This work investigated bile acids' impact on spore germination, toxin levels and biofilm formation in various strain types (STs).

To test the hypothesis that neurofilament light (NfL) in CSF is a biomarker of CNS involvement in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS), we measured NfL in CSF from 52 patients with lupus and 54 with pSS and explored associations with clinical, structural, immunological and biochemical abnormalities.

Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is an extra-oesophageal variant of gastro-oesophgeal reflux disease. Patients often do not present with the classic reflux symptoms of heartburn or regurgitation. Accurate diagnosis of LPR can be challenging. The reflux finding score (RFS) is system based on the assessment of eight parameters seen on fibre optic laryngoscopy, used to determine the presence and the severity of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). Scoring the RFS is subjective and highly dependent on the examiner's eye and experience. In this study, we investigated the inter-rater reliability between three otolaryngologists scoring a large library of video-recorded laryngoscopies for RFS.
