Raneen Abu Shqara, Liron Rosso, Lior Lowensetin, Maya Frank Wolf: Maternal and perinatal infectious morbidity in term prelabor rupture of membrane according to two induction of labor protocols (Arch Gynecol Obstet .)
The optimal labor-induction protocol in women with prelabor rupture of membranes (PROM) is unknown. Whether the management of women with a previous cesarean delivery (CD) with PROM is different remains controversial. We investigated maternal and perinatal outcomes according to two induction protocols of 24 h vs. 12 h.
Jacob Bornstein: Changing the paradigm: Elimination - Not only of cervical cancer (Gynecol Oncol Rep . )
The WHO's initiative to eliminate cervical cancer by 2030 does not address the increasing incidence of vulvar, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers linked to high-risk HPV. Currently, the prevention of these three cancers faces various obstacles, such as a lack of specialized screening programs, well-defined management guidelines, and widespread public awareness. Without any interventions, the incidence of these three cancers will likely rise in the upcoming years, increasingly affecting younger individuals. We recommend expanding the WHO's initiative to include vulvar, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers.
Hanan Rohana, Guy Marmur, Maya Azrad, Avi Peretz: A new antigen test device for rapid influenza A and B detection (Heliyon .)
Tests for detection of influenza must demonstrate high sensitivity and specificity, affordability, and rapidness.
This study aimed to evaluate the performance of the LabOn-Time™ Influenza A + B Rapid test device (BMT Diagnostics, Ltd), as compared to Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), in identifying influenza A/B among 183 nasopharyngeal samples collected between February and April 2023 from patients with Influenza-like symptoms.
Uriel Kfir, Ohad Ronen: Intraparotid Sentinel Lymph Node Dissection for Melanoma: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (Ann Surg Oncol .)
Surgical management of head and neck cutaneous melanoma (HNCM) has evolved tremendously since sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has become the prominent tool of prognosis and staging. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the safety and efficiency of intraparotid SLNB compared with a more extensive surgery of superficial parotidectomy (SP).
Luiza Akria: Cytomegalovirus colitis presenting with lower gastrointestinal bleeding following chimeric antigen receptor-T cell therapy (J Cell Mol Med .)
A 47‐year‐old female, was diagnosed with double hit large B‐cell lymphoma (LBCL)....
Maya Barakat, Alexandra Boginya, Moshe Dessau: Streamlined screening of extracellularly expressed PETase libraries for improved polyethylene terephthalate degradation (Biotechnol J . )
Enzyme-mediated polyethylene terephthalate (PET) depolymerization has recently emerged as a sustainable solution for PET recycling. Towards an industrial-scale implementation of this technology, various strategies are being explored to enhance PET depolymerization (PETase) activity and improve enzyme stability, expression, and purification processes. Recently, rational engineering of a known PET hydrolase (LCC-leaf compost cutinase) has resulted in the isolation of a variant harboring four-point mutations (LCC-ICCG), presenting increased PETase activity and thermal stability. Here, we revealed the enzyme's natural extracellular expression and used it to efficiently screen error-prone genetic libraries based on LCC-ICCG for enhanced activity toward consumer-grade PET.
Noa Harel, Enav Yefet: Vaginal Progesterone for Pregnancy Prolongation After Arrested Preterm Labor: A Randomized Clinical Trial (JAMA Netw Open . )
Women with arrested preterm labor (APTL) are at very high risk for spontaneous preterm delivery (SPTD), the leading cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity. To date, no maintenance therapy has been found to be effective for pregnancy prolongation. A few clinical trials with considerable methodological limitations have demonstrated some efficacy for 400 mg vaginal micronized progesterone (VMP) in women with APTL. Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of daily 400 mg VMP for the prolongation of pregnancy after APTL.
Israel Hendler, Jawad Karram, Adi Litmanovich, Sivan Navot, Nibal Awad Khamaisa, Jimmy Jadaon: The French Ambulatory Cesarean Section - safety and recovery characteristics (J Obstet Gynaecol Can .)
The French AmbUlatory extra-peritoneal Cesarean Section (FAUCS) is aimed at improving patients' birth experience and recovery. However, data are scarce regarding its maternal and neonatal safety. This study seeks to compare maternal and neonatal outcomes between FAUCS and conventional cesarean deliveries at term.
Nasser Sakran: 30-day morbidity and mortality of revisional bariatric surgery - An international multi-centre collaborative (BROAD) study (Obes Res Clin Pract .)
Revisional bariatric surgery (RBS) for insufficient weight loss/weight regain or metabolic relapse is increasing worldwide. There is currently no large multinational, prospective data on 30-day morbidity and mortality of RBS. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the 30-day morbidity and mortality of RBS at participating centres.
A Mari: Continued PPI use and gastrointestinal evaluations after a negative pH study in patients with throat symptoms from possible extraesophageal GERD (Acta Gastroenterol Belg . )
Recent guidelines have advocated for upfront pH testing in patients with isolated symptoms of extra-esophageal gastrointestinal reflux disease (EE-GERD) under the assumption that a negative pH study will prevent further gastrointestinal (GI) investigations, proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use, and reduce cost. We sought to evaluate if this actually occurs.
Helana Jeries, Rula Daood, Mohammad E Naffaa: Is interleukin-1 blockade a therapeutic option for patients with palindromic rheumatism? (Clin Rheumatol . )
We report for the first time two patients with refractory, disabling PR who failed several lines of therapy and finally responded dramatically to interleukin-1 (IL-1) inhibition.
David Karasik: The paradox of bone mineral density and fracture risk in type 2 diabetes (Endocrine .)
Fracture risk in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients is paradoxically increased despite no decrease in areal bone mineral density (BMD). This phenomenon, known as the "diabetic bone paradox", has been attributed to various factors including alterations in bone microarchitecture and composition, hyperinsulinemia and hyperglycemia, advanced glycation end products (AGEs), and comorbidities associated with T2D. Zhao et al. recently investigated the relationship between T2D and fracture risk using both genetic and phenotypic datasets. Their findings suggest that genetically predicted T2D is associated with higher BMD and lower fracture risk, indicating that the bone paradox is not observed when confounding factors are controlled using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. However....
Diagnostic accuracy and characteristics of symptomatic versus asymptomatic retained products of conception: A retrospective cohort study (Eur J Obstet Gynecol Reprod Biol)
Objective: To assess the accuracy of diagnosing retained products of conception (RPOC) in symptomatic versus asymptomatic women, and to identify potential divergent ultrasound features between these groups.
