David Karasik: The paradox of bone mineral density and fracture risk in type 2 diabetes (Endocrine .)
Fracture risk in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients is paradoxically increased despite no decrease in areal bone mineral density (BMD). This phenomenon, known as the "diabetic bone paradox", has been attributed to various factors including alterations in bone microarchitecture and composition, hyperinsulinemia and hyperglycemia, advanced glycation end products (AGEs), and comorbidities associated with T2D. Zhao et al. recently investigated the relationship between T2D and fracture risk using both genetic and phenotypic datasets. Their findings suggest that genetically predicted T2D is associated with higher BMD and lower fracture risk, indicating that the bone paradox is not observed when confounding factors are controlled using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. However....
Diagnostic accuracy and characteristics of symptomatic versus asymptomatic retained products of conception: A retrospective cohort study (Eur J Obstet Gynecol Reprod Biol)
Objective: To assess the accuracy of diagnosing retained products of conception (RPOC) in symptomatic versus asymptomatic women, and to identify potential divergent ultrasound features between these groups.

Michael Edelstein: "If the nurse tells me this is a good thing, I trust her completely" - Exploring health system enablers of MMR vaccine uptake in the Finnish Somali community: A mixed method study (Vaccine . )
Globally, migrant populations usually experience lower vaccine coverage than the general population. In Finland, the MMR vaccination coverage of Somalis has not been studied specifically, but existing evidence suggests that the MMR vaccination coverage is high. The aim of this study was to examine both vaccination coverage of Somali children and factors associated with the MMR vaccine uptake of Somali children living in Finland.
Wisam Sbeit, Amir Shahin, Maamoun Basheer, Tawfik Khoury: The additive diagnostic value of cytology in fine needle biopsy of pancreatic adenocarcinoma: A tertiary center experience (Diagn Cytopathol .)
Endoscopic ultrasound guide fine needle biopsy (EUS-FNB) is the main diagnostic tool for pancreatic adenocarcinoma. In most instances, only histology is obtained via FNB, without sending cytological slides. The aim of our study was to assess the additive diagnostic yield of cytology performed through FNB.
Shezifi Eli, Zaina Adnan: Comparison between surgical and non-surgical management of primary hyperparathyroidism during pregnancy: a systematic review (Endocrine .)
The management of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) during pregnancy may be surgical or conservative. This study compared adverse outcomes between surgical and non-surgical treatments. Additionally, the study investigated the correlation between serum calcium values and complication rates.

Iris Slutzky-Goldberg: The Outcome of Decoronation in Severe Cases of External Cervical Root Resorption in Young Patients (Cureus . )
This study examines decoronation as a treatment option for teeth with progressive external cervical root resorption (ECR).
Khalaf Kridin: Differential risks of psoriatic arthritis development in patients with varied psoriasis manifestations: a sex- and ethnicity-specific analysis (Front Med (Lausanne) .)
This study investigated psoriatic arthritis (PsA) risk across varied psoriasis manifestations, considering sex and ethnicity.
Elite Arnon-Sheleg, Daniel Weiner, Saeda Haj, Alon Rod, Nimrod Rahamimov: Bone Scintigraphy for Guidance of Targeted Treatment of Vertebral Compression Fractures (J Clin Med . )
Vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) are prevalent in the elderly population and might be the source of back pain if they are fresh and yet unhealed. In many cases, it is a diagnostic challenge to differentiate fresh VCFs from healed united fractures, which retain similar radiographic characteristics but no longer generate pain. This information is crucial for appropriate management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of bone scintigraphy (BS) in identifying fresh VCFs appropriate for targeted treatment when compared to the findings of Computerized Tomography (CT).
Ronit Ilouz: A mutation in the PRKAR1B gene drives pathological mechanisms of neurodegeneration across species (Brain .)
Protein Kinase A (PKA) neuronal function is controlled by the interaction of a regulatory (R) subunit dimer to two catalytic (C) subunits. Recently, the L50R variant in the gene encoding the RIβ subunit was identified in individuals with a novel neurodegenerative disease. However, the mechanisms driving the disease phenotype remained unknown. In this study, we generated a mouse model carrying the RIβ-L50R mutation to replicate the human disease phenotype and study its progression with age.

Wisam Sbeit, Amir Shahin, Tawfik Khoury: Dilated common bile duct is commonly associated with main duct Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm of the pancreas (BMC Gastroenterol . )
Dilatation of common bile duct (CBD) is mostly pathological and mainly occurs secondary to mechanical causes. We aimed to explore the prevalence of CBD dilatation in Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms of the pancreas (IPMN) among patients referred to EUS.
Inshirah Sgayer, Avishalom Sharon, Maya Wolf, Lior Lowenstein, Marwan Odeh: Interstitial heterotopic pregnancy after bilateral total salpingectomy in IVF patients: a case report and literature review (Ginekol Pol . )
Heterotopic pregnancy of an intrauterine pregnancy and an interstitial or stump pregnancy after bilateral salpingectomy is a rare complication of in vitro fertilization (IVF) that can lead to severe hemorrhage; prompt identification and management are important. The aim of this paper was to present a case report and an updated literature review of women who had had combined interstitial/stump and intrauterine pregnancies during an in an IVF cycle after total bilateral salpingectomy.
Bassel Haj: Global 30-Day Morbidity and Mortality of Primary Bariatric Surgery Combined with Another Procedure: The BLEND Study (Obes Surg .)
No robust data are available on the safety of primary bariatric and metabolic surgery (BMS) alone compared to primary BMS combined with other procedures. The objective of this study is to collect a 30-day mortality and morbidity of primary BMS combined with cholecystectomy, ventral hernia repair, or hiatal hernia repair.
Inass Kayyal-Tarabeia, Michael Blank, Keren Agay-Shay: Beyond lung cancer: air pollution and bladder, breast and prostate cancer incidence (Int J Epidemiol . )
The carcinogenicity of air pollution and its impact on the risk of lung cancer is well known; however, there are still knowledge gaps and mixed results for other sites of cancer.
Alon L Roguin, Edo Y Birati: The Effect of Iodinated Contrast Media Sensitivity on the Prognosis of Patients with STEMI (Medicina (Kaunas))
Iodinated Contrast Media (ICM) is used daily in many imaging departments worldwide. The main risk associated with ICM is hypersensitivity. When a severe hypersensitivity reaction is not properly managed and treated swiftly, it may be fatal. Currently, there is no data to demonstrate how ICM sensitivity affects the prognosis of cardiac patients, especially those diagnosed with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), in whom urgent coronary angiography is indicated. This study aimed to identify and characterize this relationship.
