The Galilium Final Projects Program

The Galilium Final Projects Program is a regional initiative designed for 11th-grade students from the Eastern Galilee region who are interested in conducting a final research project in the sciences. Throughout the program, students carry out scientific research under the guidance of a scientist, alongside a writing mentor who supports their academic writing.

The projects are submitted to the Ministry of Education and earn students five academic units toward their matriculation certificate.

The research topics are highly diverse, spanning the fields of expertise of local research institutions, including medicine, agriculture, biology, biotechnology, chemistry, physics, and more.

Schools from across the Eastern Galilee cluster participate in the program. The research is conducted at various regional research institutions, such as the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine, MIGAL Galilee Research Institute, Shamir Research Institute, the Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research Institute, and hospitals including Emek, Poriya, Ziv, as well as Tel-Hai College.

The program has been operating as a regional initiative since 2015. Its highlight is the annual Galilium Final Projects Conference, held every March, where students present their research findings.

Examples of research conducted through the program include:

  • "Identification of regions on viral proteins that suppress or enhance immune response."
  • "The effect of the digestive bacteria of different ruminants on the germination rate of Ziziphus spina-christi seeds."
  • "Characterization of the structure of an electrical conductor based on measuring the drift velocity of electrons within it."
