The Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee

The Bar-Ilan University Azrieli Faculty of Medicine is located in the northern part of Israel, the Galilee - in the beautiful and historic city of Safed. Founded in the year 2011, the Faculty currently offers masters and doctoral degrees as well as, of course, an accredited MD degree.

Three MD tracks are offered for eligible Israeli students:

- A three-year track for students returning from medical school programs abroad
- A four-year track for students who have completed a BA/BS degree and who have succeeded in a set of core background natural science courses
- A full six-year track

The comprehensive science and humanism driven educational program also places an additional special focus on community medicine and preventive care, particularly, the needs of the residents of northern Israel (the Galilee and the Golan).

Students are assigned a mentor and learn via traditional frontal methods as well as the Flipped Classroom method and Team-Based and Case-Based Learning, to name a few teaching innovations.

International students (non-Hebrew speakers) are encouraged to apply for the advanced research degree options (MSc and PhD) at the Faculty. Areas of research focus include Diabetes and Metabolic Disease, Genetics, Virology and Inflammation, Microbiome, and Data Science in Medicine.

The recently renovated modern campus includes an auditorium, cafeteria, fully equipped classrooms, a comfortable library, simulation rooms, lounges, an administrative wing, and student union. Modern laboratories are staffed by researchers who also instruct the students in their pre-clinical studies, as well as, of course, students pursuing advanced degrees. The Faculty extends its reach to the affiliated academic medical centers throughout the Bar-Ilan Research Institutes at the hospitals, to promote translational research.
