About
The Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee
The Bar-Ilan University Azrieli Faculty of Medicine trains medical professionals in basic science as well as clinical studies, providing the students with the necessary background and skills to become top rate primary care physicians and specialists and/or medical researchers in the fields of bio-medicine. Students are encouraged to apply their knowledge and commitment to the community, and in particular, to the residents of northern Israel.
Clinical instruction is conducted at hospitals throughout the Galilee:
- Padeh (Poriya) Medical Center, Tiberias
- Ziv Medical Center (Rebecca Sieff Hospital), Safed
- Galilee Medical Center, Nahariya
- Nazareth Hospital EMMS (Scottish Hospital), Nazareth
- The Holy Family Hospital, Nazareth (Italian hospital)
- Mazra Hospital, Acre
Medical studies, including epidemiological and clinical research, are also conducted in the ambulatory medical centers around the Galilee.
The pre-clinical studies are conducted using a novel, integrative, multi-disciplinary approach by a series of teaching units – "clinical arenas." Topics are integrated according to the normal and pathological biological processes. The program incorporates a strong curriculum of basic medical sciences and clinical education.
Following this novel approach, research institutes have been established at the Faculty, with Integrative and Disease Oriented research centers for investigators exploring both basic (pre-clinical studies in medical fields) and clinical research. The guiding principle at the Faculty is Translational Research: research is oriented towards implementation, be it clinical, diagnostic, or treatment. There is strong collaboration between the academic faculty members from the campus research center and those from hospitals and clinics.
The Faculty of Medicine especially pinpoints and dedicates special focus to the study of health and disease unique to the Galilee population. The goal is to improve health services for the residents of northern Israel and to meet their needs.
The Bar-Ilan Azrieli Faculty of Medicine is an integral part of life in the Galilee community. It is involved in science enrichment programs for the young, preventative medicine, promotion of health and wellness, and environmental issues.
