What Is This?

We’ll keep you in suspense. Read on.

JIMSJIMS

Prof. Mary Rudolf (emeritus) is proud to inform us that Matan Peer has received the JIMS (Journal of Israeli Medical Students) Editor's Choice Award for his article, which appears in the inaugural issue of the journal this month. His research focused on the effects of Covid 19 on the mental health and learning abilities of medical students. Also proud of this achievement are Dr. Jumana Essa Hadad and Dr. Lilach Malatsky.

JIMS was initiated by a group of Israeli medical students who saw and felt the need to encourage high level academic writing. After careful research, they discovered that Israel is lacking a student medical journal, like those found in universities worldwide, such as Yale. In addition, with 16,000 medical journals worldwide, only 2 originate in Israel – so the founding editors acted to make this idea a reality. After contacting the Israeli Medical Association and meeting with the deans of the six Israeli faculties of medicine – including Prof. Skorecki who strongly supports this endeavor – the students formed an editorial board, manual, and website.

Articles accepted for publication will be considered in lieu of the mandatory research thesis. “This is quickly becoming a hub for excellence and research, and a perfect platform to learn about academic writing and publishing,” said Guy Melamed the editor-in-chief and TAU medical student.

Two of five original research articles in the first issue are written by Azrieli students.
