Faculty Representative Meets with the Embassy of India in Israel
Mahesh Kumar, the Indian Student Representative at the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee, participated in a luncheon organized by the Embassy of India in Tel Aviv, attended by senior embassy officials and student representatives from universities across Israel.
Among those attending were Sarabjeet Sudan, Deputy Chief of Mission, and Vishal Jyoti Das, First Secretary for Political, Media and Press Affairs, together with representatives of Indian students from universities throughout Israel. Discussions focused on the welfare, safety, and needs of Indian students in Israel, including visa procedures between India and Israel, student life in the aftermath of the war, emergency preparedness, crisis communication, and strengthening cooperation between the Embassy, academic institutions, and student representatives.
During the meeting, Kumar shared the experiences of Indian students studying at the Faculty in Safed and highlighted the Faculty’s academic and research environment, its multicultural community, the celebration of Indian holidays, and various cultural activities held on campus. He also emphasized the significant support provided by the Faculty during the war and other emergency situations, ensuring students’ safety, well-being, and academic continuity while helping them navigate personal and practical challenges. According to Kumar, Embassy representatives expressed their appreciation for the Faculty’s commitment to and support of its Indian students.
The meeting also explored initiatives aimed at promoting cultural exchange and student engagement, including a public Indian cultural festival and inter-university cricket tournaments.
Participants emphasized the importance of holding such meetings on a regular basis to strengthen ties with the Indian student community in Israel and respond to its evolving needs. The gathering concluded with a traditional Indian meal at Tandoori Restaurant in Tel Aviv, allowing participants to connect with one another and enjoy a taste of home while studying far from India.
