From the Student Union Desk: Welcoming the New Academic Year

As the new academic year begins, the Student Union continues to enhance the student experience, promote community initiatives, and help both new and returning students become part of campus life and the Galilee community.

A Smooth Start for New Students

To support incoming students as they prepare for their move to the Galilee, a new information website has been launched through the initiative of Yakir, a student in the Six-Year MD Program, in collaboration with the Student Union. The website brings together useful information about life in Safed and the Galilee, including housing options, transportation, local services, and practical recommendations, with the goal of making the transition to Northern Israel easier and more welcoming. The site is still under development and is expected to continue expanding throughout the year.

A Conversation on the Future of Medicine and Healthcare in the Galilee

On October 19, 2026, the Faculty will host a special event titled “The Future of Medicine and Healthcare in the Galilee,” led by the Student Leaders in Medical Education group in partnership with the Student Union. Public officials and representatives from a broad range of political perspectives will participate in a discussion on the key issues shaping the future of healthcare in the region.

The panel will provide students with an opportunity to ask questions, share their perspectives, and take part in shaping the public conversation around the future of medicine in Israel and, in particular, in the Galilee.

Starting the Year Together

Two days later, on October 21, the Faculty will hold its traditional Welcome Festival, organized jointly by the Student Union and the Faculty. The event will offer an excellent opportunity for students from all programs and years to meet one another, connect with Student Union representatives, and begin the new academic year in a warm, festive, and community-oriented atmosphere.

Supporting Students Beyond the Classroom

Over the past several months, the Student Union has expanded its partnerships with local businesses across the region to provide students with additional discounts and benefits.

Among the new offers:

• 10% discount at Beit HaUgot
• 10% discount at Moshitz Café (Machanayim)
• 10% discount at Bella Café
• 10% discount at Hummus Eliyahu
• Special student benefits at Gold Gym
• A new partnership with Adir Winery in Dalton, through which students who purchase breakfast or a cheese platter receive a complimentary bottle of wine

All benefits are available upon presentation of a valid student ID from the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee.

These initiatives are part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the student experience in the Galilee, encourage engagement with local businesses and community initiatives, and foster a student community that is deeply connected to the region in which it lives and studies.

The Student Union will continue working throughout the year to support student well-being, promote new initiatives, and expand the range of benefits and services available to students.
