First Student Village for Bar-Ilan Medical Students is Set to Open at Kibbutz Amiad
The first student village for medical students of Bar-Ilan University’s Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee is currently being established at Kibbutz Amiad and is expected to begin operating in the upcoming academic year. The village is designed to address one of the key challenges faced by students who come to study medicine in the Galilee: relocating to a new region, often far from home, and integrating into a new social and community environment.
The initiative is being led by the Faculty’s newly established Relocation Office, headed by Yair Sheinberg. The office was created to support students throughout their transition to the Galilee and help them integrate into the region. Its goal is to provide practical assistance with housing, employment, transportation, social life, and connections with the local community.
In its first phase, the village will accommodate 26 students, who will benefit from affordable housing, a vibrant student community, scholarships for community engagement with an emphasis on community medicine, and transportation to and from the Faculty. In addition, students will be able to take part in kibbutz life and enjoy the facilities and activities available to residents, including a swimming pool, dining hall, cultural events, sports facilities, and a local pub.
The Faculty views the establishment of the student village as an important step in strengthening the connection between students and the Galilee. Beyond addressing immediate housing and integration needs, the initiative aims to help students become familiar with the region, its communities, and its healthcare system, while fostering a sense of belonging to the area where they study and complete their clinical training.
The village at Kibbutz Amiad is expected to be the first of several medical student villages planned throughout the Galilee. The Faculty hopes that the initiative will not only enhance the student experience during medical school, but also encourage graduates to remain in the region, join the local healthcare system, and build their lives in the Galilee.
