New Community Memorial Garden Established at the Faculty of Medicine Galilee
The inspiring initiative of the “Leading Students – Medical Education” group at the Faculty transformed a beautiful community idea into a heartfelt memorial project this week.
Students inaugurated a community garden of edible and aromatic plants on campus, dedicated to the memory of those who were killed and murdered on October 7 and during the “Swords of Iron” War. The garden connects grief with growth, healing, and hope.
The project was initiated and led by eight students, who were responsible for every stage of the initiative — from developing the concept, through logistical planning, to producing the event and managing the planting process.
As part of the project, the students created a digital platform that enabled members of the community to dedicate a specific plant in the garden in memory of a fallen or murdered individual. The initiative received a deeply moving response, with many requests from students and community members.
The planting and memorial event brought together more than 60 students, faculty members, and staff, who came to take part despite a challenging and complex security situation in northern Israel. The event opened with a moving ceremony and continued with collaborative work, planting, and a community gathering.
The community garden will remain on campus as a living symbol of remembrance, partnership, and the power of a community to grow even through difficult times.
A community memorial garden featuring edible and culinary plants has been inaugurated at the Faculty of Medicine through an initiative led by the Student Leaders in Medical Education group. The student-driven project combines remembrance, community engagement, and hope. It commemorates the victims and fallen soldiers of the October 7 attacks and the Swords of Iron War.
