Selection Process

Admissions Process for Applicants to the 2027-2028 Academic Year

Admissions Process Overview

Stage 1: Admission Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • A full Israeli matriculation certificate (Bagrut).
  • A Psychometric Entrance Test score of above 600.
  • Applicants who took the Psychometric Entrance Test in a language other than Hebrew, or applicants whose high school language of instruction was not Hebrew, must also achieve a score of 120 or above on the YAEL Hebrew Proficiency Examination administered by the National Institute for Testing and Evaluation (NITE).
  • The YAEL requirement has been in effect since admission to the 2022-2023 academic year.
  • Passing grades in all required and elective courses completed during the first three years of study at a medical school abroad.

The initial screening process will be completed approximately one month after the close of the application period.

Meeting all initial screening requirements is a prerequisite for continuing in the admissions process and receiving an invitation to the Knowledge Examination.

Applying Without a Psychometric Score

Applicants for the 2027-2028 academic year may apply at this stage without a Psychometric Entrance Test score.

  • A psychometric score may be submitted through the April 2027 examination date (inclusive).
  • Applicants who successfully pass the initial screening stage may receive a conditional admission offer pending fulfillment of all admission requirements.
  • Applicants who do not achieve the required psychometric score will not be permitted to continue in the admissions process, even if they have successfully passed the initial screening stage.

Applicants who fail to meet the required psychometric threshold will be disqualified, regardless of their performance on the Knowledge Examination, personal interviews, or the SHAUL Assessment.

This arrangement applies only to the 2027-2028 academic year and does not obligate the University in future admissions cycles.

Beginning with the 2022-2023 academic year, applicants who meet the initial screening requirements must successfully complete a Knowledge Examination covering:

Each applicant will complete:

  • A personal biographical interview.
  • A situational interview based on a specific case scenario and discussion.

SHAUL Assessment

On the interview day, each applicant will also complete the SHAUL Assessment, administered by the National Institute for Testing and Evaluation (NITE) and replacing the former SHALVA Assessment.

Both the personal interviews and the SHAUL Assessment are conducted at the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in Safed.

Important Notes

  • Participation in the interview day is mandatory for continuation in the admissions process.
  • Interviews are conducted in person at the Faculty of Medicine.
  • Initial admission offers are conditional.
  • Final admission decisions are issued only during August, prior to the start of the academic year.
  • Final admission is contingent upon review of the applicant's official academic transcript and verification of completion of all academic requirements at the medical school abroad.

This review includes verification of:

  • Successful completion of all required and elective courses.
  • Passing grades in all courses.
  • Completion of three full years of study at the same recognized medical school abroad.

Please note: An interview invitation and payment of a tuition deposit do not constitute final admission. Final acceptance is granted only after verification of eligibility, review of the official transcript, and confirmation of promotion to the fourth year of medical studies.

Stage 4: Admission and Final Approval to Begin Studies

Following completion of the admissions process, successful applicants will receive a Conditional Letter of Acceptance.

At the conclusion of the sixth semester of studies at their medical school abroad, applicants must submit:

  • An official transcript demonstrating completion of the required academic program.
  • Official confirmation of eligibility to advance to the fourth year at the same medical school.

Final approval to begin studies in the Three-Year M.D. Program at the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine, Bar-Ilan University, will be granted only after all required documentation has been submitted and all admission requirements have been verified.
