Inauguration of the Medical Students’ Village at Kibbutz Amiad

On October 6, the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine of Bar-Ilan University inaugurated its first student village in the Galilee at Kibbutz Amiad. Twenty-seven medical students received the keys to their new homes as part of an initiative led by the Faculty’s Relocation Office, in partnership with Kibbutz Amiad and the Kedma Association.

The village is the first step in a plan to establish additional medical student villages across the Galilee, helping students become part of local communities and build connections in the region during their studies.

The project reflects the Faculty’s commitment to the future of healthcare in northern Israel. Alongside training excellent physicians, the Faculty is working to encourage graduates to live and work in the Galilee by creating opportunities for professional growth and stronger ties to the region.

The village was established following months of collaboration between the Relocation Office, Kibbutz Amiad, and Kedma, an organization specializing in student villages. Residents will enjoy life in the kibbutz and take part in community activities in exchange for scholarships supported by KKL-JNF.

Faculty leaders, hospital directors, local authority representatives, partners, and supporters joined Bar-Ilan University Rector Prof. Cyril Cohen, Kedma CEO Lior Kinan, and KKL-JNF CEO Ilan Shohat for the inauguration ceremony.

Faculty Dean Prof. Orly Avni spoke about the importance of combining academic excellence with a sense of belonging and regional responsibility. Addressing the students, she said: “Our responsibility is to help build a future that you will choose. A future where you stay in the Galilee not despite your ambitions, but because this is where you can achieve them.”

Special thanks were extended to the Faculty teams who helped make the project a reality, including Associate Dean for Strategic Planning Prof. David Anschel Seipers, Head of the Relocation Office Yair Scheinberg, and Head of Administration Noam David Rashelbach. Prof. Avni also thanked the Faculty’s researchers, as well as Raya Strauss and Rani Maadan, for supporting collaborative research between physicians and scientists.

The Relocation Office is already working to establish additional student villages in the region, creating more opportunities for future medical students to make the Galilee their home.

27 medical students moved into the new student village at Kibbutz Amiad, the first project in a plan to establish a network of student villages across the Galilee. The initiative aims to strengthen students’ connections to local communities and encourage the next generation of physicians to build their futures in northern Israel.
